Here’s a brief description taken from http://kikkerland.com/
Welcome to Kikkerland Design Inc., where creativity runs rampant and even the most utilitarian gadget becomes a delightful discovery. Since 1992, the folks at Kikkerland Design have traveled the world in search of original designs for things that can make life more enjoyable. Clever things to intrigue you. Smart things that make everyday tasks easier. And gentle things that make you feel happier when you use them. It’s no wonder that Kikkerland Design continues to offer the world’s largest collection of ingenious items combining form, function, and delight in equal parts. You can find them in thousands of stores around the world, including museum and specialty shops. Or you can just stay home. Because if it’s inventive, witty, and smartly designed, Kikkerland Design will bring it to you. Just for the fun of it.
What’s so special about this company? As opposed to the classical tin toy production, which still uses the tecnique of assembling various pieces of TINPLATES painted by chromolithography, the Kikkerland graphic designer Chico Bicalho has proposed a new way of conceiving the making of tin toys.
About Chico Bicalho
Chico Bicalho believes in having a spiritual life, in freedom, and in peace; supports the theory that the earth is one living thing and feels that humans should understand nature, live with nature, and be equal to nature; received a BFA in sculpture from RISD and MFA in photography NYU; since 1995 has been working with a group of friends on reforestation projects replanting native South Atlantic tropical rain forest trees. Chico lives in Rio with his wife, a graphic designer/industrial designer called Isabella Torquato. He wants to keep traveling, making art, and planting trees.
Because of this sensibility towards the planet safety, Chico Bicalho has launched a gamma of ecological tin toys: its metal toy creatures derive from recycled cans and metals which he carefully handmakes by himself. His choice of creating INSECTS reflect his care for nature.
